Review: Nykaa Skin Shield Anti Pollution Foundation : Oily & Acne Prone Skin

Recently, Nykaa, the Indian beauty brand reintroduced their foundation line with Skin Shield Anti Pollution Foundation. The brand also introduced darker shades with different tones. As I have an oily and problematic skin, I’m not keen about heavy full face beat as they break me out but I was highly impressed by the triple action features and the claims and here are my thoughts:

The foundation comes in a tightly sealed black tube with a flip and squeeze cap. I believe, it is travel friendly as it doesn’t comes in a glass or heavy packaging. It is just a small tube that can be slipped anywhere. (It resembles NARS foundation).

Texture & Aroma

The texture of the foundation is cream based and it doesn’t have a fancy aroma. It doesn’t smells like anything to be particular and can be considered fragrance free. It blends pretty easily and has a matte and skin-like finish. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. There is no exaggerating shimmer or glow, so you cannot expect a dewy look unless you highlight or mix it with an essential oil. It is plain and matte, perfect for oily and shiny skin type.

The detailed ingredient list is mentioned in the outer box and not on the foundation tube:

Cyclopentasiloxane, Water, Triethylhexanoin, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Trimethylol  hexyllactone Cross Polymer, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Lauryl Peg-8 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Peg-18 Dimethicone, Phenylisopropyl Dimethicone Sodium Chloride, Talc, Glycerin, Benzyl Alcohol, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Biosaccaride Gum-4, Cyclohexasiloxane, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Methicone, Enantia Chlorantha Bark Extract, Quaternium -90 Bentonite, Disodium Edta, Silica, Dehydrocetic Acid, Propylene Carbonate, Hydrogen Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Oleanolic Acid, CI 77891, CI77491, CI77492, CI77499

Nykaa expanded their foundation line with 15 skin shades claiming to suit all Indian Skin Tones. There are 5 shades based on Fair skin tones, 5 shades for Medium Skin tones and 5 shades for Deep Skin tones. However, I believe an extra shade line should be added for Deeper Skin tones.

Nykaa Skin Shield Anti Pollution Foundation claims to be a Shield against environmental pollution and is enriched with vegetable glycerin to support hydration and skin elasticity.

My Experience/ Suggestions / Review

I have an Oily and Acne Prone Skin and my shade is “Hot Honey”, which comes under the Medium Skin Tone Range. This shade has a neutral under tone and is a perfect match for my skin. The foundation is really feathery and has a medium to full coverage and can be build according to your needs and requirements. It covered my minor acne scars with one application. I also noticed a minor blurring and smoothening effect.

The application was smooth and the foundation can be blended easily, I prefer a beauty blender for a smoother and natural finish. It claims to control Oil formation on the skin and actually keeps the skin matte to some extent, however it oxidizes a little and I noticed my shiny oily skin peeking through after an hour. It definitely needs minor touchups as it also starts cracking a little through the curves of the face after a few hours. If you have large pores, it’s a good option as it doesn’t glorify the pores out. It is not drying or heavily overwhelming and I believe it is a good option for dry skin types too.

My acne prone skin was pretty comfortable and the texture isn’t heavy, I tend to apply makeup after a thorough CTM routine. A healthy skin makes your makeup even better! Overall, Nykaa Skin Shield Anti Pollution Foundation is a good option for people who seek natural skin like base. I’d love to know your thoughts.
